Do you have 2fa turned on? In my experience if it’s off Google decides by itself to prompt you for a random second factor like your phone. If the account is not connected to anything else it may decide to not let you log in at all. If 2fa is turned on the behavior is a bit more consistent.

True and the time insensitivity is a real benefit. Thanks for the chat!

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Options for folks leaving proton who don’t want to self host?
1·2 days agoAnother device still tends to be in the same location. I wouldn’t use the own service’s sync but an encrypted backup stored on a separate cloud service should be fine.

1·2 days agoRealistically what is the alternative for the average person who does not have two separate physical locations for redundancy? Give your backup codes to a friend?
Smaller communities do feel like communities here. Lemmy as a whole is not that big but it still feels pretty public for me. I’m probably more of an introvert than you :p Public conversations like talking with someone on the bus (or like this) scare me a bit but exposure helps.
Still, it’s nice you can enjoy these longer convos.
Makes sense I guess. I tend to see comment threads as one-off things and don’t pay much attention to usernames. Maybe when you comment more you end up interacting with the same people eventually and if you’re lucky they’ll remember you too.
It’s a bit hard to compare this to outside life as I don’t tend to have conversations with strangers. But some people do, so it must work well sometimes.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Why aren't people outraged about convenience pricing?
3·4 days agoNot sure what’s the point to them then. If you’re at the mall you’re already inconvenienced

8·4 days agoA convenience store next to a supermarket isn’t very convenient unless the supermarket is huge. Most convenience stores tend to be closer to you and stay open more hours than supermarkets. I’m ok paying more for that. Convenience stores here are run by neighborhood people, supermarkets are run by rich businessmen. Starbucks is not that kind of shop though.
How do you even start this on lemmy? You have an interesting conversation with someone in a thread and then just send them a message to keep talking? It feels like most people would think you’re a bot.

We had classes where we analyzed parts of the Odyssey, Iliad and other ancient books/plays. I didn’t like most of them but at least the Odyssey deserves a full read at some point.
