She seems to know when I’m going to panic before I do, will herd me to chairs when I get dizzy, and is smart enough to learn how to retrieve objects and help with other mobility tasks. She’s 3, so she’s too old for the fancy training, but I think with the help of a trainer, we can get her taught the things I will specifically need.

She and I have been through a lot recently. She and my other dog, a beagle, ate some kind of toxin they found in the yard. The beagle died and Rosie was in critical condition for days. She and I are navigating grief together and have become so much closer. She’s my shadow now that the beagle is gone. She’s taken up his role as cuddle buddy and constant companion and all that. On top of the grief, she has some slight memory issues from the seizures and fever the toxin gave her, so she’s remeeting a bunch of people. It’s going super well. She’s been going on adventures (errands) with me and my mom and my sister and she’s loving it.

That seems like a very good idea. Starting with a dog who already loves you and has figured out ways to help gets you more than half-way there.

Best wishes to both of of you!

I’m so sorry to hear about your beagle and the struggle you’ve had since. It’s a testament to your bond that Rosie is that much closer to you now. Wishing you all of the luck on the training and please give Rosie a pet from me <3
