I tried for about twenty minutes to come up with an image that would be completely and perfectly symmetrical. However, the frustrating thing is that the building is symmetrical in suggestion only. Everything about it is off by a couple centimeters, no matter how carefully I set the tripod and how perfectly I lined it up.

At some point, between the construction of the building and the shutter snapping, a mistake was made, at least one.

And I will just have to live with imperfections, and that’s okay.

Thanks for seeing my work!

Islam has a tradition of creating the most incredible mosaics, but somewhere in the middle there is a single piece out of place either in colour or shape or orientation.

The idea being is that it is hubris to make something that is truly perfect, because only Allah is perfect. So every artistic work or functional piece that is also meant to be beautiful includes a subtle visual flaw to remind us that we are only human, and that our flaws are what make us human.

I’m a hard atheist, but I strangely agree with that sentiment. Plus, perfection is boring.

And on the flip side, you can occupy an entire swarm of crotch goblins for most of a day by getting them to find that one out-of-place piece of tile on a traditional Mosque.
