Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Normal or abnormal electricity use?English
1·4 days agoYou dont say where you are.
I’m in the UK and we have smart electric meters. The app provided by the company let’s me see my usage over the last 12 months by day/week/month.
I’ve also just had solar panels installed that came with an app that lets me monitor real time usage.
My house’s base load is approximately 200w per hour (fridge/freezer/lights). And we use about 8kwh per day which includes turning the oven/microwave on.
On days when we charge the car that goes upto about 30kwh.
So yes, it sounds like you’re using a huge amount. If I was going to guess why,it’ll be the oil heater. It probably isn’t clicking off or isn’t reaching temperature. Next culprit will be the air conditioners. The pump probably only uses 300w tbh.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Why don't countries add harder requirements for becoming a President(Like having a PhD/master degree, having a certain amount of experience in politics,...etc)?English
2·4 days agoThe last few prime ministers in the UK have all been extremely well educated. Attending private schools such as Eton and Uxbridge and then attending top universities.
On paper they have been incredibly talented. In reality they were fucking useless.
The best leaders are the ones who seek the views and advice of experts in their respective fields. They appoint advisors based on their experience, skills and qualifications.
The shitty leaders surround themselves with yes men and sycophants

First “pirated” game i ever got was Elite for the Acorn Archimedes in 1991. Came with a photocopied manual which was essential as the anti-piracy measure was having to type in a word from the manual (think 4th word of the 3rd line of page 12 sort of thing).
That was given to me on a floppy disk.
