Ah, that’s good. I am not familiar with Ancestry.com at all so I would not have thought of that one. Ty.

Yeah, probably not that one 😬. For multiple reasons but greatest among them, my grandma would come back to haunt my ass if I did.

Ask Science@lemmy.world•How do control burns work? Is there science behind it? Why not controlled flooding?English
31·2 days agoLook to nearby colleges or universities with an agricultural arm. Example, https://snr.unl.edu/academicprograms/prescribed/index.aspx
Why not controlled flooding? Controlled fires are consuming a backlog of available fuel to mitigate the chances of a future uncontrolled fire. A flood wouldn’t be relieving any sort of equivalent pressures, they’re not analogous.

8·2 days agoAnd your thoughts on whether one must use the original stick pin or is it ok and not actually “defacing” the symbol to use a safer pin design? That’s the “arbitrary” bit I was making fun of.

5·2 days agoI’ve seen gender neutral bathrooms but I don’t think I’ve seen bathrooms for trans people specifically. Well, that’s inefficient; trans folk make up, what, 1% of the population if rounding up?
I could also see some might feel “outed” by having to use them, instead of any and all using a gender neutral option well-designed for privacy. Trans peeps get the same access as everyone else, my cis woman self also wins by having bathroom cubicles that don’t have an inch-wide gap around the door. (I think this is what intersectional allyship looks like 🌈🙌, /s sorta)

81·2 days agoI like the idea of a white “peace” poppy. I assume used as a quiet but visible way to protest, eg, any support of the a Israeli government’s genocide of Palestinian people.

15·2 days agoFavorite color, book, movie, etc.
I arbitrarily decided green is my favorite color just so I could answer icebreakers without looking like a personality-less weirdo. But really, I don’t care and don’t really understand having a “favorite”.
Books, movies, other medias, I understand a bit more but still don’t have any of my own. I rarely re-read or re-watch anything. And the things I do re-watch (mostly Halloween or Christmas season stuff) aren’t my favorite overall, just for the applicable season. I can’t recall the last book I re-read.

It’s been a few years since she passed, everyone has had a chance to pick out anything they want to keep. Photos and diaries still left have been digitized and shared with any family member who want copies.
I’m actually first to toss physical nostalgic memorabilia, which is why everything ended up with me; other family members want me to make the stuff go away without having to trash it themselves. I accept my family role. Just the idea of doing geneology as a hobby gives me hives, that is absolutely not me or my personality. I think it is super cool and support other people enjoying it, thank goodness everyone is not like me.
I appreciate the offer to take a look, but I’m not going to share the things through Lemmy. I keep this account pseudonymous.
