I ran it through a couple detectors, including the one recommended by Piefed. Maybe they’re wrong, but corporate-speak sure reads similar to it, at least if the ChatGPT-inherited mannerisms of Hank Green are anything to go by.)

Privacy@lemmy.world•To Proton, providing more context just means more proof that Andy is an a-holeEnglish
6·6 days agoThe verbiage is so freaking weird too. It reeks of toxicity and retaliation for the people who dared speak up.
This one keeps coming up, so here’s the actual quote in context (unlike the leakers, I have permission to post this image)
Lemmy is built to be scraped in as many ways as possible (public APIs for both clients and servers), and you can probably tell that a vocal minority scoff at the idea you deserve privacy either here or anywhere. That includes with votes and voting patterns.
This attitude of entitlement to your data will extend across most of the Fediverse and to other similar federated services. It’s like something is in the water.

1·8 days agoThat’s not a bad idea either. You would only need to install FoxyProxy on one profile, without juggling conditions (a plus) but then you’d lose out on shared bookmarks and history (a minus). I guess only OP knows what’s right for them

Privacy@lemmy.world•Looking for a good alternative to ProtonVPNEnglish
2·8 days agoFor context, I’m particular about the extension because I want to able to whitelist specific websites from the VPN
If you are able to export VPN configurations, can’t you use an extension like FoxyProxy for either of these? Admittedly, this can be a little tedious, and you might have to do some research first.
Alternatively, you might want to see if you can just download a portable version of Firefox and exclude one of the Foxes through split tunneling.

Privacy@lemmy.world•Thundermail - Privacy-Focused Email from ThunderbirdEnglish
4·8 days agoThat’s a fair point, but if it’s encrypted like Proton Mail, is it even email at that point?
I guess they could apply a Proton-like system that automatically encrypts everything and build in a Proton Bridge equivalent into their clients, but that would be some favoritism that might be uncomfortable.
Spaces like Reddit are very useful as the internal work chat is not good.
Godspeed if you find Reddit useful. I remember when the Reddit Privacy moderators were so captured that they were willing to censor content on behalf of Proton.

Privacy@lemmy.world•Tools inside the chat vs. a simple messenger: privacy win or bigger attack surface? (developer asking, limits first)English
0·22 days agoWhy not just build on something that already exists? Like DeltaChat already has most of these things and then some, and uses a trusted encryption protocol (none is mentioned for your app).
Kinda concerning when the readme contradicts itself in an obvious way within a few lines
Text, files, voice and video calls between two people, with the history living only on the phones — never on a server … [If] the other phone is off, the message waits in a mailbox on our server

I see people mentioning you can do card making with banks, which is true, but those banks already know your identity, and probably do worse with your data. The whole point of the intermediary is to mask your purchases from your bank.
Unless you’re faced with Persona yourself and are trying to avoid it specifically, I’m not sure if it alone is a reason to avoid Privacy. Any online bank like this will require your identity. (Maybe you can contact them and ask for an alternative method.)
