313·2 days agoI get my news from many sources, I know about the No Kings protests. They pale in comparison to what’s happening somewhere like Paris. If a protest is inconsequential, then it means very little, people go about their day.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•$1.8 trillion was wiped out from the US stock market yesterday, where did it go?
32·3 days agoThe market is mostly irrational, there are no ways to judge intrinsic wealth in a late stage capitalist stock market where we don’t have free markets and protectionism through tariffs.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Why aren't people outraged about convenience pricing?
121·4 days agoI’m not outraged because I never plan on paying for it. I love buying things in bulk in advance, preparing my own food, much cheaper.

35·4 days agoIndeed, if they’re talking about market capitalization then “wiped out” doesn’t make sense. It’s just simply a measure of the dollar cost of shares, much more important is liquidity and real volume.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are your plans to get through this next major global recession?
1·4 days agoI’m getting more interested in my core engineering physics understanding, such as electromagnetics and thermodynamics. I’m not sure how to “get into” that though, because every job I’ve seen requires over 5+ years of experience.
I think jobs like HVAC, electrician, plumbing, construction are all going to be increasingly more important. And I think career change is the only way to survive.

LocalLLaMA@sh.itjust.works•Sam Altman: "Local inference is a terrible allocation of scarce resources"English
2·5 days agoThat’s insanely ironic coming from him. Meanwhile the crazy amount of waste that these companies are producing buying all the GPUs to create artificial scarcity. They are terrified of people being able to run their own local LLMs because it completely destroyed their entire business model, they will never be profitable.

Smart, I would do something similar, except was thinking ducks depending on the area. Pig farming seems less profitable.
