Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's up with the "prepare for a 3 to 10 day outage"?
6·5 days agoThe idea is that in a longer outage you’re fucked anyway
but if you have “toilet paper” for 3 tot 10 days that will put less strain and panic in the system
it’s not saying it’s coming or coming soon but having “toilet paper” for a couple of days is good

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What was your most recent dream? Tell me your dreams for a free shitty analysis.
3·5 days agoI dreamt about a new roundabout where I thought a roundabout would fix some problems with traffic.
The roundabout was a temporary test setup which will probably remain a temporary test setup for 10 years.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Would another program like Roosevelt's WPA turn America around quickly from the shitty place we are in?
14·6 days agoThen look at it from outside of America of you don’t understand the inner working.
If you’re an ally of America or make a deal with America, every 4 years they may elect a Trump

15·7 days agoNo, I believe Americans are America’s problem. Just look at what leadership Americans prefer.

1·8 days agoI didn’t mean to imply a narrow subset. Pretty much everything I own is idle and unused most of the time.

Would be nice to be able to buy part of a datacenter instead of renting it.

93·8 days agoIt’s true what he says and not just about RAM but about anything you own.
My car isn’t driving most of the time. My drill isn’t drilling most of the time and my oven is off most of the time.
That’s a huge waste of resources in a macro economic kind of way.
You can’t argue with the correctness of his statement. You need other arguments. These arguments exist.

01·1 month agoI’m sure the subjects of the research mentioned in the article do all that.
I can say AI is being used for a lot of stupid wasteful things. I don’t know what it costs for AI to seemingly improve our knowledge workers, but to me that is worth something.

0·1 month agoyeah but you’re very biased about what you think
it actually is really refreshing to get a LLM to break down your arguments and ideas
cognitive friction really gets the best out of your brain even if the AI is only averagely good at disproving your ideas
thinking for yourself and using AI isn’t mutually exclusive
please not again with forcing all that weird sexual stuff on people who don’t care about it
that already got trump elected
