  • Ignore the marketing bullshit and check the active ingredients, then buy the cheapest one with the ingredient you need. If you’re stuffy and guaifenesin (Mucinex) isn’t taking care of it, get a SPRAY (not pill, they’re useless) of phenylephrine or oxymetazoline. That shit is powerful and will clear your sinuses in seconds, but you can’t use it for more than 3 days in a row or it’ll fuck your sinuses up.

Warnings for the brain dead: don’t take shit you’re allergic to and talk to a pharmacist to make sure it doesn’t interact with your meds.

  • You don’t get to tell me how I have to express my opinions or argument and I have no clue why you think you do. I’m also not sure you intended ‘I am uninterested in college level discussions of sex and biology’ to be a self own, but I appreciate the honesty.

In “my system” (looking at the natural variation of the human body), there isn’t a single “the” third sex. I don’t even see the point in numbering them, frankly, because there’s always going to be some new discovery of a variant of sexual development in humans. It being more complicated than 2-3 is literally the point, it’s like demanding an exact number for how many ways proteins can fold. It’s a fucking lot and we keep finding more, what do you want from me, to just make up a number? I already said for most cases just sticking to male and female is all that’s necessary. That doesn’t make people with other sexes not exist.

You were the only person that seemed to have trouble understanding my single gene/chromosome typo in context, but I’m glad to have cleared that up for you 🤷‍♂️

  • I just named multiple ones for you, what in the hell are you talking about. What I’m refusing to do is put an upper limit on it, because there is a lot going on biologically with sex.

    y is a chromosome not a gene

    My point exactly.

You literally aren’t even following this conversation. The SRY gene controls testicle and penis development. It is not the Y chromosome. It is usually found on the Y chromosome, but can be on the X chromosome as well. Someone with an XX genotype and an SRY gene will develop a penis and testes, and may go on to father children. Read the Wikipedia article I linked if you need more explanation. You want to tell me someone who was born male and produces sperm is biologically female because of their chromosomes??

  • ‘If you rule out all the exceptions it’s actually only two’ isn’t impressive to me, sorry. I even gave you an example that isn’t ‘female by default’ with the SRY gene.

And no, I won’t pick a number. I’m not a geneticist (and I highly doubt you are either), I don’t know every possible chromosome and sex organ configuration (and neither do you). You justify why there are only two sexes when I’ve given you all these examples that clearly aren’t XX and XY.

  • If you want to get nitpicky about biological sex, there definitely aren’t only two. On top of XXY and X0, you have things like androgen insensitivity syndrome where someone is born with a typical vulva and vagina, but has XY chromosomes and a body unable to respond to testosterone. The SRY gene is what’s responsible for the formation of testicles and a penis, not the Y gene, so you can also have people who are XX with a typical penis and testicles who can father children. And arguing that someone assigned male at birth who can father children is actually biologically female because of their chromosomes would be losing the plot.
