This article was posted by someone the other day in relation to Proton’s AI slop, and it mentions:
So who’s left? Fastmail are encouraging AI users with an MCP server.
Also, Fastmail are union busters. They fired most of a union bargaining unit in 2024. Fastmail said this was just a restructuring. One that just happened to mostly fire the union organisers. Coincidence, I’m sure.
So that’s not great.
I did try Posteo (via Thunderbird) for a bit and generally liked it, but didn’t like not having a way to easily sync labels/tags between my devices.
I can’t see anything mentioned about custom domains, and their site just feels slow?

It’s a nice thought but I don’t self-host communication. Communication needs the be highly available, and for my mental health, I need someone else to blame when it’s not working 😆

Thanks for the heads up. I would need the mid tier anyway as I will be using a custom domain and many of my needs are based around that.

Supports the same encryption processes as Proton iirc
Proton and Tuta encrypt everything in the client so they have zero knowledge of the emails in your inbox, and because of this you can’t use standard email clients. So anything that allows a standard client isn’t up to the same standard.
But with that said, Mailbox seem to be explicitly no-US in their stack, and after all if 99% of emails are coming or going outside of the Proton/Tuta ecosystem then I’m not sure how helpful the extra encryption is. I’ll wait and see if anyone else has suggestions, and if not I might sign up for Mailbox for a month and see if it meets my needs. Thanks for the suggestion!

I have seen it mentioned but went with Tuta because of the E2EE. But as it turns out it’s only for Tuta to Tuta emails.
I think Mailbox.org is looking like something I should look into further.
My kids are getting older now (oldest is 9) and I allocate time at bed time for talking. They have aged out of random questions but we continue with “question time” that is the last thing before “lying down quiet time” so there’s a good incentive to think of questions to delay sleep 😁
I encourage the questions (and have had some really cool ones, like why don’t we have two suns, or where did the first person come from) but yes, especially young kids ask questions because they want to hear you talk, and often they are the same one over and over, or don’t make sense, or are asked to delay something else. I mostly only answer the exciting well thought out questions and encourage them to try harder if it’s not a good question (for their age).

Toothpaste instructions often tell you to rinse with a small amount of water, but dentists here always say not to.
And floss before brushing, so you can rinse goop out before the toothpaste goes in.
Yeah I saw that too, but that doesn’t seem likely to have been available in medieval times.
