I prefer just to use base units like kg,m,s and just use scientific notation. Converting between units that change scaling like the centimeter with a 10² increment is annoying when most of the prefixes use 10³ increments. And nobody even uses deci- and deca- which are 10¹ increments.
You also have weird metric, but not SI units like the Ångström which is 10⁻¹⁰. You also have plenty of natural units like the speed of light per second or things like the astronomical unit that don’t fit. And pressure is the worst one. It is either kgm⁻¹s⁻², N/m², or a Pascal, but it could also measure atmospheres, millimeters of mercury, or the CGS barye and none of those have convenient conversion factors. And don’t even get me started on temperature cause conversion with that get funky!
The thing with measurement is that it’s best to have one standard unit and measure stuff based on that. The fact that US Customary units even convert between each other was an ongoing effort in standardization as they were each made for a specific purpose and then people had to consolidate them in convenient ways in a world without computers.
All that said, I love the metric system, but I’m still disappointed that it wasn’t based on dozenal or hexadecimal so I could get some better division that 2, 5, or 10. lmao

This is hilarious to me as someone with the mutation.
