No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Is there anyway to use LLMs without supporting the billionaires/data centers but without also entirely upgrading your computer?English
21·4 days agoNo, obviously. OP was disappointed with commercial LLMs, and I’m just saying you’re not going to get better results from a local LLM without a lot of work. If you want to devote a lot of time, knock yourself out, but understand it’s a lot of work and won’t be better than what you were disappointed in.
If you want to do it as a hobby and use it to help with shopping or automating search tasks, sure. There’s your Lada, and if you need a Lada, cool.
I was answering OP’s question, not trying to wax poetic on how having your own ai pet sucks in general. Like I said, knock yourself out. Just know this isn’t trivial.

11·4 days agoWhat I mean is you’re not running anything comparable to the industrial LLMs you are already disappointed with.
Sure, you can run a limited model, but it’s not going to compare with the big models. If that’s what you’re expecting, you need to spin up a data centre.

25·4 days agoNot really, no.
You can technically do this, but it’s going to be so expensive and so much work, it’s not going to be worth the effort, especially if you already think your interactions with LLMs haven’t been worth it.
To make a self-hosted LLM worth your time, money, and resources, you’ll need to make it basically a part time job.

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Jeshus H Christ. Why do they put delicious biscuits in these surprise cans?English
4·6 days agoI think they reintroduced the ‘manual’ kind after a while, might have been limited or geographically bound. Not sure, but I expect they’re somewhat smart.
My experience is from the 90s-2000s. I haven’t used them in a while.

3·6 days agoThis was explicitly marketed as a no spoon thing, where you just peel the tab(?). It pops when it pops.
e: isn’t that the yellow string to the right in your picture?

5·6 days agoI fucking hate these things. Back in the day, you used a spoon and knew when it would pop. Who the fuck decided my biscuits should include a jump scare? Fuck whichever designer made me afraid of biscuits.
This incel shit is ridiculous.
Just nut. You’re better than this.
