It feels like a lot of attacks on weird men’s behaviour are actually just misogynistic underneath

that’s actually a pretty fair point. Society tends to think of women as having less agency than men; that they’re delicate flowers, or country bumpkins getting the wool pulled over their eyes by men.

    No.

A lot of them enter these situations with their eyes wide open, and its our collective small minds that can’t handle that truth, so we reinvent a different narrative.

    Good catch, honestly.

  • I get your point, and the vibe their music gives off. As another commentator says, older pumpkins stuff is less pretentious. The point that I’d like to make, and a lot of people miss, is that two things can exist at once and you don’t need to purge your library of artists that turn out to be shitbags later. On two things true at once: you can be a shitbag, and musically talented. The two aren’t mutually exclusive, and honestly, there’s a lot of talented dick cheeses out there that made a lot of good music. On not purging your library: one of the things that was a lesson I learned early in life, is that people are very heterogeneous individuals. You can be great at something, and then be terrible at another thing, or have a terrible personality. That doesn’t mean you can’t learn from awful people, or enjoy the good parts of them, or the good products (music) they produce. Their behaviour is not a reflection on you, but you are responsible for not condoning their behaviour, or actively speaking out against it.

I had a lot of very flawed male mentors growing up. I knew what was right, and what was wrong, and I knew that I could still get something of value from these men despite their shitty morals or behaviour. I actively collected the good parts, screened out (or learned from) the shitty parts, and made my own model of who I thought I should be and how I should act, and got some good technical experience in the process. You can steal information without becoming simlar to the source that produced it, if you use a filter.
