Some people just like to be contrarian.

Oh I see you one of those type of people. Endlessly complain about something that you know nothing about, and then when you’re actually educated, you move the goal posts so you sound like you still have some sort of point.
If it was travelling at a velocity of 30,000 feet per second it would have been vaporized by atmospheric heating. That’s substantially faster than asteroids collide at. That works out app 20,454 mph which is considerably faster than a Apollo rocket.
Yeah that’s been done. It takes a while to have an effect.
I think we should have four clock switches per year.
In northern Europe an hour isn’t enough to make a difference regarding daylight, the winter days get really short up here. Initially it’s okay but then as the winter drags on you start to find that it’s still dark in the mornings again so really we should have the clocks move forwards and back every three months.
Obviously that would be kind of unnecessary in the US outside of the Alaska.
But let’s have spring forward every year, let’s make it real confusing. In 6 years 9am will be in the middle of the afternoon.
It’s got nothing to do with farmers. So whether or not farmers find daylight savings useful (I think the split is roughly 50/50) is irrelevant.
It’s nothing to do with farmers. I don’t know where people got that idea.
Farmers get up when it’s daylight and you can see, what time it is isn’t relevant. It’s not like the animals know what daylight saving is so if they don’t get fed when they expect it, they’ll kick up a fuss.
During the second World War we had double save lights savings. So it went 12 am. 1am. 2am. 12am

2·18 hours agoYes it’s a complex device, but so is a bus, and they’re not wear near as efficient. I think we could probably maintain them if we wanted to.
Think about it, it’s superior to every other last mile transport method. It’s continuous, so it’s right there when you need it, with no scheduling required, it doesn’t take up any more space on the sidewalk it replaced while having the exact same function as a sidewalk, it cuts down on journey times and encourages walking.
It even accommodates boring American city grids.

21·24 hours agoSee no one can use travelators, this is why we can’t have nice things. You’re supposed to walk on them not stand still and getting everyone’s way.
This is why they can only exist in airports, a place they’ve already screened for weapons.
It depends on how sharply to pronounce the C
Trump means fart in English as well.

Mildly Interesting@lemmy.world•San Francisco turned a beach road into a park. Drivers are not happy. On November 3rd, voters will decide whether or not the road should be reopened to cars
292·3 days agoOutside of the US this wouldn’t even be a question.
You don’t need literally every single thing to be a road. Why do Americans have such an issue with destinations? Every time somebody makes something cool there’s always someone complaining that it could be an 18 lane highway instead. If you turn everything into roads there won’t be anywhere to go anymore.
Don’t put it in there then.
One I’ve actually heard is, you couldn’t swing a dead horse in here.
Yeah the US banking system is really archaic. They still use signatures as a form of security.
I’m really not sure what the resistance to modernisation is. But it causes all sorts of problems like this, that the rest of the world just never experiences.

Well California is the entire planet as we all well know, so I guess it’s conversation over then.
