For me, I’m in rural US. I have a well-paying job (6-figures) in a low cost-of-living area and live fairly close to work.

Personally, I’m doing alright, but my particular situation is insulated from everyone else like you. That being said, while I have a short commute for work my main hobby involves driving 1+ hours one way up to 3 days per week. Gas prices being so high is a big (though not the only) reason I’ve cut down on the driving for hobbies.
