3·3 days agoI was on there this week to look at my previous orders from years ago and find certain items that I knew I had bought some of but seemed to have misplaced. turns out my last order was over 6 months ago, which surprised me — I thought I had ordered more recently for high priority projects where I needed something the next day.
I was also on there for a similar reason looking for some car parts because I wanted to get something done last weekend, but ended up just ordering from somewhere else and substituting a part or two.
but yeah the quality is probably the most effective turn off? like in the past couple years there’s definitely been a few scenarios where I thought “oh yeah Amazon would have something for this”, and only used that to find the key search terms I should be using elsewhere, because you just know that whatever you buy off Amazon is going to be garbage
they suck on stroads, yes. they’re mostly fine in tight downtown areas alongside a single vehicle lane.
I think most people refer to physically separated bike paths that share the same road surface as bike lanes. personally, I don’t really like completely separate bike paths (around here, most commonly multi use paths), because they’re not actually designed as infrastructure, but as recreation, so connections and directness are poor.
but, yes, just tossing in a bike lane is not the proper solution, it’s a bandaid on the way to a complete infrastructure replan. and fuck you Ontario for blocking them and ripping them out

minimize travel by plane and by car. they’re not very fuel efficient.

2·4 days agoit’s more about practicalilty. when in flossing, stuff might get loosened but still be partially stuck in my wire, or just stick to be back of my teeth
if I floss first, I can just go straight to brushing and not have to get that little piece unstuck separately

13·6 days agoI’m proud of you
yep. I’m just tired of people not recognizing the very real dangers of desk jobs and long hours. look at any engineering department and you’ll see fat guys that can’t move, and seemingly healthy people with issues.
yes, we’re not about to cut our fingers off at our desk. but being at your desk for 50+ hours a week has real consequences on your body, that have very real effects on your life outside of work. and you need to know about that and handle it.
sometimes, not always
I’ve found that people use “work from home” more often when they mean actual work. slightly more often. most people I know still use remote interchangeably for work from home.
you can’t go down the road stopping every time you’re blinded when it’s every fourth car that’s shining laser beams into your eyes. that would be a different kind of dangerous.
in my example, it was actually the driver ahead of me that couldn’t see the pedestrian and nearly hit them; I was barely able to discern them as they crossed in front of the asshole headlights, because I’m very aware of this exact situation. but I certainly don’t blame them for not seeing the pedestrian - they were basically completely invisible, including during the approach on the sidewalk, again because of the stock lowbeam LED headlights shining into our faces. I’ve seen people nearly get into frontals as well because the oncoming car was turning, but nobody could see it because of the headlight glare. personally, yes, I generally don’t go if I’m not sure it’s clear, which is why I watch during intersection approaches so carefully, so that I know what might be hidden behind headlights. but the ugly truth is that sometimes you have to keep driving when you’re blinded, because the alternative is more dangerous. (that does not apply at a four-way stop)
I’m so tired of hearing that blinding headlights are perfectly fine because they’re legal and the car came like that
okay, Jared, but you’re still an asshole for having them and blinding me at the four way stop so I almost ran over somebody in the crosswalk because they were absolutely invisible due to the glare from your lowbeams even though they just walked right in front of you.
