Brother, I can’t even buy a chocolate bar that meets these requirements, how the hell are you sourcing your electronics?

I was just taking a potshot at the dates, since I’ve been happily driving a 2016 for the past 6 years, i don’t know what the exact inflection point for mass enshittification was.
Surveillance, tracking, OTA, and poor repairability are all things I’m hoping to avoid in the future.
What’s a good cut-off date?

The paradox of choice is why a few of us are abandoning streaming for physical media (or at least intentional downloading).
When everything is available to us, we lose the ability to appreciate anything on its own terms. We can no longer ask,“what is going on? how does this thing work?” Instead, if it’s the least bit challenging, the least bit unfamiliar, the least bit uncomfortable, we immediately skip, and now the entire media landscape is made by creators who know their audience will give them only a few seconds of grace before saying next!

I was on & off with Linux for decades. It was usually some minor problem that would take a weekend to fix, often driver or audio-video related. And GRUB errors were an early end to many experiments.
But about 3 years ago, Windows started crashing and I couldn’t figure it out. After much troubleshooting, I finally installed Linux Mint and have had no real problems.
I’d also say AI, used with caution to troubleshoot, is a better tool than google search by a country mile.

I wish I still loved video games as much I used to.

Products are actually getting worse, more locked down, more enshittified.
Longevity > cutting edge technology
I don’t plan to buy a car built after 2022 ever.

Yes, but I feel good knowing there’s an AI bot owner out there more frustrated than I am.

A remember a few images like that with resolution so low it was just one step above watching scrambled Cinemax after my parents went to bed.

If BBSs don’t count, the Tolkien-based text MUD in the university’s computer labs, and later a Discworld MUD.
Edit: Common set of commands in Middle Earth: e, e, e, e, e, e, e, e, e, e…
If you are autistic, it definitely does matter. You’re going to spend a lot of time trying to fix what isn’t wrong with you otherwise. Example: this post.
Have you considered you might be on the spectrum? Most people love to talk about bullshit and who is fucking whom and sportsball and what not. If you don’t like talking about that, it’s probably time to just write off being friends with 95% of the human race.

Yes, it really is just having a few basic recipes that are adaptable.
Unfortunately, nobody generalizes their recipes, so you have to look up a lot of recipes before you see the pattern sometimes, and that makes it feel more challenging…
Someone needs to make a cookbook full of recipes like:
Cook on medium heat for 20-40 minutes, until everything is beginning to brown or something.
Insted, you get a 300 page cook book with all the possible combinations of spices and ingredients and it’s overwhelming.

I mean, the volume and consistency is really quite impressive.
Ypp, the third frame could be the guy lifing the telescope to his eye and the fourth could be a close up on a flag.
Yup, and Corey Booker was giving all the credit to Chuck Schumer, whose handpicked candidates often lost their primaries to more leftist candidates (who went on to win).
Plus, the DNC decideded to abandon Angie Nixon, a DSAer, and she lost by only a few points.

Always better. The more that we can drag down the franchise, the less money for TERF causes.

Legal institutions can jail people for life, but vigilantes can’t. Kidnapping a CEO and ethically keeping him alive in a private blacksite for life (food, entertainment, medical care (ironically)) is cost prohibitive and also much harder to pull off.

Mutually shared:
I remember being the Apple Pro in charge of watching all of Apple’s “all new” product launch events and I felt second-hand embarassment for everyone involved.
