I read this like four times in passing before realising it was Takei
The idea that Pstew greeted random fans like that is far more more magical
I read the content but missed the author at first. Thought SPS was saying that to some rando to give them a boost.
Two of the greatest voices in history. Their simultaneous laugh would’ve set off seismometers miles away.
Oh my!
(In stereo)
I can just imagine the collective grins on both their faces (and likely anyone else sitting nearby)
Man, if I was sitting between Sulu and Capt Picard, I’d be all like

(But y’know with Picard and Sulu, instead of Sir Paul)
This is how I know you’re not Gen Z.
What, I could be very cool Gen Z. you don’t know!
If you’re Gen Z, you don’t want me to think you’re cool. That will definitely mean you’re not cool.
Blast!
He had been waiting all week to use that comeback.
Flight attendants are thinking “Oh, shit, then I must be the Red Shirt!”
“Did they ever fix Turbolift 21?”
“You know, they never did!”
Can’t unsee the m-dashes 😞
AI models will typically put spaces around em-dashes
Not necessarily. I think it’s broadly correct. But I just went through my ChatGPT experiments and I’d say it’s roughly two thirds with spaces around and one third no space. Especially when contrasting and with relative clauses, it doesn’t do any spaces. But I heard they’re messing with it anyway and stuff like that changes all the time. Seems to me modern ChatGPT uses less em-dashes altogether, compared for example to half a year ago?!
You know the typeable of old character right?

Yes, I do. It’s just that since AI has come about the use of m dashes has exploded.
It’s entirely possible for someone to use m dashes by themselves, or just maybe to use an AI powered translation or grammar check app, and that’s fine.
But because I work with AI a lot “m” dashes, the term “load bearing”, the "that’s not just X, that’s Y", etc. ways of speaking just signal heavy AI use to me. And usually the fact that I notice them and the author of a news article or post or whatever didn’t, makes me suspect that the output was not re-read before posting.
I mean it seems very unlikely given the source.
The only people who know what m-dashes are are the ones that hate m-dashes

I’ve been using them since before AI…
Hey, I love me some m—dashes!
