Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Do you blame parents who can not afford children for making them or do you sympathize with them?
22·3 days agoCan’t really blame them for that, since income can come and go for a variety of reasons.
What I do wish, however, is that people would be more cautious about having children. There are too many unprepared and unfit parents.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What basic or everyday thing did you recently find out you were doing wrong?
1344·3 days agoNot too long ago I learned that you’re not supposed to rinse your mouth out after brushing your teeth, but instead just spit out the toothpaste. Apparently you’re supposed to leave a coating of it on your teeth for it to work properly.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's up with the "prepare for a 3 to 10 day outage"?
44·4 days agoJust preppers being too twitchy as usual. The U.S. military ordered bases to prepare to be without power and now they all think it’s the apocalypse.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Do we really want Lemmy's userbase to grow and assimilate "normies"?
3·4 days agoHow can an instance be “watered down” if most of them federate? Does world block a lot of other instances?

I would gladly do this if it were simply for the good of all mankind and no profit was involved. For NVIDIA, fuck that.

2·6 days agoThis has been the case for at least like 15 years. Baffles me that people still don’t get the memo
It’s two-sided.
On one hand, I was raised by a forest ranger to hunt and fish and camp, spent my childhood in the boy scouts learning all that stuff, and brought up in strict, yet community-oriented religion.
On the other hand, I spent every other waking moment on the computer. I was essentially raised by the web circa 1995-2004. I was exposed to so many different viewpoints then. The web wasn’t nearly as insular then as it is now. You’d have forums where everyone spoke to each other. I learned to question my religion and eventually found my way out. I rejected all the right-leaning beliefs I was raised to have.
And yet, I wouldn’t trade that first part of my childhood, because it was genuinely a nice childhood. I saw what real community can be, something that I now lack. I picked up a thing or two about how to be a moral and capable person along the way. And gained lifelong friendships.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Why do so many people comment and then delete their message?
1·27 days agobecause i realize i don’t want my inbox to be full of people mad at me.
Protip for lemmy devs: if there was a ‘disable inbox replies’ button I wouldn’t do this.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Where do you get reliable information nowadays?
0·9 months agoYeah I don’t get that. Wikipedia is a fine source.

That wasn’t a small step. That was about the biggest step that could have happened.
