like for example: react, C# WebM, WebP, av1, and many more
some parts that big tech made, are really hard to replace, due to them, being complex or fundamental to a speific system
how would we replace them (i hope there are existing replacements for the examples i talked about)?
This is pretty off-base for what OP is asking about.
React and C# are open source.
WebM, WebP, and AV1 are open standards that have mature and well developed open source implementations.
Literally every item OP asked about is already OSS. OP just doesn’t like that they originated at Meta, Microsoft, and Google.
Not everything made by big tech is bad.
React is great. It’s open source. The governance is reasonable. Why should we replace it?
WebP, WebM and AV1 are great open technical formats. We should use them.
If a standard is truly open, then you should judge it on its technical merits, not some weird purity test about where it came from.
sorry to say it, but that maybe wrong, because its big tech, once there are no actual non corporate competitors, they will ruin it
we should know that when we do depend on something too much, it gets ruined
it’s open source though. just clone the previous version and keep building on that. that’s how we got valkey, postgresql, libreoffice, webkit, jenkins, mariadb, all the bsd’s, plex, xorg, wordpress, inkscape, openssh, apache, etc etc etc
Enshittification is SOP. Its open now because they want to lure market diversity into their ecosystem. You have a point.
Judging by the downvotes, it seems we never learn.
Methinks you misunderstand what “open” means.
Open Source, Does Not Guarantee That it wont be enshittifed, and also nobody would have the resources to build a fork without funding
and even if we do fork it, it is a entire city’s worth of work
but entire cities of volunteers already work on most of the systems you mentioned
Then fork the last unshitified version. You don’t need to build a fork. You just fork it, and worst case scenario is that you have a version that didn’t go to shit.
you ca replace C# with Db
Looks like a sound advice!
Right on pitch
Dammit, beat me to it!
On a big tech question session, eh, OP?
Slowly and with an open source offering. But also by making the alternatives so easy that choosing proprietary is actually harder.
If it’s open-source or patent-free, no need to replace those things.
C# WebM
What?
