We don’t get a lot of kids on our street, but we always decorate and hand out candy. We made it a point to sit outside this year so kids were more comfortable walking up. I don’t really dress up, but I’m a metalhead with long hair and all of my attire is pretty goth and dark, so Halloween is when my wardrobe becomes even more relevant.

My wife and I walked the neighborhood and got to walk through 2 scare zones in people’s yards, and then someone gave us Jell-O shots lmao.

I’m 45 and will never age out of this stuff. Next year I want to decorate more, project Halloween movies on the house, and hand out candy. 🤘

My mom scared away all the kids two years ago because she handed out little booklets about how Halloween is the devil’s holiday 🙃

First I thought you meant crying emoticon, then a strange way of styling tots, like, children, and only then did I realise u meant trick or treaters 😭(ToT)

Most of the kids are getting candy from car trunks in parking lots these days. So lame.

Or: buying a bag of candy “just in case” even though there haven’t been any trick-or-treaters around here for at least 20 years.

I went trick or treating for the first time ever last night with my 3 year old. I felt so awkward just walking round harvesting sweets from neighbours.

i hosted the largest halloween party in town (about 10% of our small city showed up every year I was involved) for about 15 years. i took over for the guy who started it and then made it an annual tradition. after my fifteen years, a different neighbor took over. we all did it our own ways and it had a drastically different tone with each host.

it’s nice to let other people host the party now, but i kind of miss throwing it.

I had a neighbor that was really into Halloween and maybe the occult to an extent(?). They had an absolutely awesome setup every year. They’d have their house open on Halloween week and have candy and games for kids and such. A few times some of the townspeople were unhappy with how far their decorations went and they would be vandalized or even brought to the city council due to the complaints.

They had some really expensive nativity scene that was stolen one year and they had spent a huge amount of money on it. That was the end.

We had a party but oof this year it was lame - my grown kids asked me to have one (our house is a great house for a Halloween party) and then took off to other parties instead of bringing their parties here, and none of the grownups I invited came because it rained hard, and we got almost no trick or treaters either, because of the rain.

Halloween is my favorite holiday, and I am happy enough just decorating and giving out candy, I do dress up. This year just sort of a Ghostess, dead makeup, long gray dress, inverted pentagram necklace. Simple and effective, I didn’t look usual.

The two kids who did stay had scary costumes - one was a data center and one was a Waymo.

Every stage of life represented in this comic is better than the stages in my life. Things that are unintentionally depressing are the worst.

I grew up in a very rural area and Halloween trick or treating just wasn’t a thing we did when the nearest town was 20 miles away. Our Daughters grew up the same way. And no one ever came knocking on out door either.

It might explain why our one daughter is big about decorating for every holiday now that she and her husband live in a big city.

We don’t really do Halloween here, but I still feel like I’ve skipped straight to “finally”.

I actually would’ve wanted to stock up on groceries earlier today, but then I realized it’s getting dark, so there might be people outside doing Halloween-related activities, so I postponed that to Monday…
