At least, we have reason to hope that the Skydance era of Paramount won’t last long: AFAIK Skydance is underwritten by the Ellison’s family fortune, but that is by now deeply entangled with the AI bubble, because David’s father, Larry Ellison, has invested so much in it. If the AI bubble bursts, it remains to be seen how much longer the Ellison family can keep control over the Skydance conglomerate. Of course, it would not serve Paramount well if it had to change owners yet again.
through ORACLE which builds the AI datancenters. they dont seem to have adirect hand in meddling with the franchise though. its the shitty showrunners they keep using for trek.
No great loss. Since the '80s, Star Trek was the McDonalds hamburger of science fiction. You don’t choose it because it’s good, you choose it because it’s readily available.
It’s not a problem specific to Paramount or even the industry–t’s an economy-wide problem. We are being run by finances guys that understand nothing but make line go up, not movies, not video games, not chocolate bars, not beloved TV franchises.
Ellison’s money comes from Oracle which is in on the AI stuff but his money is still made by having its claws deep into many of the fortune 500. Even if the bubble bursts he’s still got plenty of money left to first his paramount gambit.

Star Trek will end up owned by the Saudis.
Even if he lost 99% of his wealth, he still has $ 3.65 billion. Rich people can afford to fail big time and suffer no real consequences.
